We have also seen two documentary fashion films: Bill Cunningham New York and Mademoiselle C. I think Bill Cunningham was perhaps my favourite of the two as his natural charisma and personality was portrayed not only through the camera but also through his work that was shown. It was clear just from seeing an hour and a half of Bill's life that he is such a talent with an analytical eye for detail that not many others ever see. It was apparent his time in fashion world has gained him a respected reputation with people like Anna Wintour only allowing him to take her picture (if he wants to that is) and when he at first could not automatically get into a fashion show, a man came out and said 'what are you doing, this is the most important man in the world!'.
I also watched Diane Vreeland: The Eye Has To Travel in my spare time, which was an amazing insight into her life and experience. It showed how her perhaps harsh upbringing with a very critical mother shaped her into who she was. Despite her mother always criticising her for her appearance, when she became fashion editor she would always encourage flaws and wanted to make them the most beautiful feature in the image.
It has all been an intriguing insight into what lies ahead on the course. I can't wait for the course to properly commence and for the creative exploits to truly begin!
